Open to all district, site and teacher leaders. A two-day leader experience dedicated to advancing leader knowledge and skills of race, equity, and impact. Leaders will engage individually and collaboratively with content that focuses on exposure and application to meaningful change in schools for all students -- particularly students of color.

Envisioning and Leading Equitable TK Classrooms 

Date: March 20-21, 2023, 8AM-3PM

Day 1: Leadership Practices to Support, Integrate, and Align P-3

GUIDING QUESTION How can principals and district leaders effectively support, integrate, and align high-quality, equitable ECE programs within school sites and systems?

LEARNING OUTCOME Leaders develop the knowledge and understanding to support their role in leading for high-quality, developmentally appropriate, and equitable ECE programs. 

Day 2: Inquiry through Play

GUIDING QUESTION What does purposeful play-based, inquiry-driven instruction look like in a TK classroom?

LEARNING OUTCOME Leaders deepen their understanding of high quality TK classrooms by observing and experiencing play-based and inquiry-oriented TK instruction.
 
 

Leading Cultures of Collaboration and Continuous Improvement

This learning module will consist of seven virtual 2 hour sessions facilitated by the California Labor Management Initiative (CA LMI).
  • Understand leadership knowledge, skills, and behaviors necessary to develop cultures of collaboration and continuous improvement through application of CA LMI’s collaboration concepts, frameworks, and research.
  • Deepen understanding of the leader’s role and the connection between trust and improvement in education systems.
  • Reflect on school/district current state of collaboration and continuous improvement, where they would like to be, and what actions can be taken to make it a reality.
  • Deepen understanding of the connection between collaboration and leading high-functioning teams to create more equitable outcomes for all students.
  • Develop an implementation plan to apply learned knowledge.

The Art of Coaching

New and experienced coaches will gain clarity about Transformational Coaching and its potential to impact schools and organizations, all while growing confidence in their coaching abilities. Administrators will leave with new tools for leading the adults on their teams.
 
 

San Benito County Office of Education presents: Leading for Impact with Pat Greco

Pat Greco is a champion of continuous improvement focused on building system, leader, and team capacity for Evidence Based Leadership. A nationally and internationally published author, she is recognized as an instructional leader and advocate for student learning at the state and national level. As Superintendent of Menomonee Falls, WI and with 37 years in public education, Pat successfully used improvement science to build capacity and develop systems resulting in: moving Menomonee Falls High School from "in need of improvement" to being ranked as the top high school in the nation on U.S. News & World Report; reducing middle school suspension rate by 63% and reducing workplace injury claims by half a million dollars, allowing resources to be redirected to instruction.

Envisioning and Leading Equitable TK Classrooms

The 21CSLA Universal Transitional Kindergarten Leadership Initiative prepares leaders to “lead for equity” in rolling out California’s Transitional Kindergarten for all
 
After exploring research and standards related to high-quality, developmentally appropriate instruction, leaders can identify specific “look fors” in TK classrooms to develop their instructional leadership for implementing California’s UTK.
 
Leaders can make specific connections between existing assessments and how they can inform equity- centered continuous improvement for systemically marginalized and historically underserved students.
 
 
 

County Superintendents Coaching County Superintendents

The 21CSLA Regional Academies in Mid-State (Madera), ValCo (Los Angeles), Placer/Sacramento, and Sonoma are teaming up to provide technical support for our County Superintendents through 6-hours of professional learning around leadership coaching. We will focus on questioning using the book, The Coaching Habit, by Michael Bungay Stanier.

Open to all district, site and teacher leaders. Come prepared to work on an authentic Problem of Practice within your district or school. School and District Teams are strongly encouraged to attend to discover how Improvement Science can make the difference, in real life, in real classrooms, and in real schools.

Opening Keynote by Mike Mattos Mike Mattos is an internationally recognized author, presenter, and practitioner who specializes in uniting teachers, administrators, and support staff to transform schools by implementing response to intervention and professional learning communities.

All Participants will receive a free professional library focused on equity-centered leadership practices.

Leading for Equity in Universal Transitional Kindergarten through Instructional Leadership

The California Governor’s Master Plan for Early Learning and Care Master Plan for Early Learning and Care urges seamless integration of TK and California State Preschool Programs (CSPP) to make high-quality preschool opportunities equally accessible for young children, all tied to a P-3 framework.
 
This professional learning sequence is informed by and integrates existing policies, guidance, and research. The community of practice is designed to:
  • Increase UTK content and policy knowledge
  • Examine equity issues in UTK implementation
  • Improve ability to manage meaningful change

Equity and Access for All Students (Cultural Proficiency Certification)

This training, underwritten by 21CSLA, is a cohort model for district/site teams whose goal is to build capacity for sustaining Equity and Access for all students. Teams will learn how to apply the concept and tools of cultural proficiency for completing self-guided equity assessments, and reviewing and developing equity action plans. Includes the Cultural Proficiency: A Manual for School Leaders (4th edition). 
 
OUTCOMES FROM THE PROFESSIONAL LEARNING EXPERIENCES INCLUDE:
  • Narrowing & closing access and education gaps.
  • Reducing and eliminating disproportional outcomes among student ableness, languages, discipline /behavior, and academic placement.
  • Building professional capital (CTAs) within the district to grow and support large scale change initiatives focused on access and equity for all students.

Understand the "inside-out” approach and the 4 tools of Cultural Proficiency as a response to educational and equity gaps.

Collect site-based data and analyze how Cultural Proficiency can inform practice. Use the five essential elements to turn values into action.

Use trainer-of-trainer model to prepare participants as certificated training associates (CTAs) to build capacity using the 4 tools of Cultural Proficiency in their school and district contexts.
