Academic Decathlon

Mark your calendars for Saturday, February 1, 2025 for the 43rd Annual Academic Decathlon. Seven schools from throughout Madera County will study the topic "Our Changing Climate."  The essay test will be held at each school on Thursday, December 12 and objective testing will be held on Friday, January 24 at the office of Madera County Superintendent of Schools.  The interview, speech and Super Quiz events will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Madera South High School.

Participating schools include: Chawanakee Academy, Chowchilla High School, Glacier High Charter School, Liberty High School, Madera High School, Madera South High School, and Matilda Torres High School.

The Academic Decathlon is a high school competition challenging students in 10 areas of study. Seven of the events are multiple-choice tests: art, economics, math, music, language and literature, science and social science.  This year’s required novel for the literature test is Solar Storms by Linda Hogan.  Students will also write an essay online prior to the event.  Students will have a chance to deliver a prepared speech on the topic of their choice and an impromptu speech from a list of topics. In addition, students will go through a mock interview before a panel of judges.

The Super Quiz will begin at 12:00 p.m. followed by lunch at 1:00 p.m. on February 1, 2025.  The awards ceremony will begin at 1:45 p.m.  Parents, school administrators, and community members are invited to attend.
